Yoga and Mindfulness
Yoga and mindfulness practices involve a combination of physical movements, breathing exercises, and meditation. These practices have been shown to have a positive impact on both academic performance and mental health in college students. Yoga has been found to improve cognitive performance, including attention and memory, in college students (Gothe, Keswani, & McAuley, 2016). Yoga and mindfulness practices have also been found to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve overall mental health in college students (Kaplan et al., 2018). Yoga and mindfulness practices may also improve resilience, which is the ability to bounce back from stress and adversity. A study conducted by the University of Southern California found that college students who participated in a 10-week yoga and mindfulness program had increased resilience and lower levels of perceived stress compared to a control group (Mikolajczak et al., 2019).
